About Gawyn Reddragon
Gawyn Reddragon, is a native of West Virginia, United States of America, Earth, The Sol Solar System, The Milky Way Galaxy, The Universe.
He is a graduate of Marshall University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Basic Humanities, with a focus in Classical Studies, (1997) and his Master of Arts in Sociology (1999). His areas of specialization include issues of social inequality – specifically Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered (LGBT) issues and Appalachian Studies. He was trained as an oral historian by the Oral History of Appalachia program at Marshall University (1997-1999). He has over 25 years experience as a sociologist, social worker, teacher, and civil rights advocate.
Gawyn has been an organizer and active in social change movements for almost 20 years. He is one of the organizers of the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Pride Event in West Virginia. He served as a member of the Marshall University Multicultural Commission, a member and subsequently advisor for the Lambda Society (Marshall University’s LGBT student group), and the West Virginia Hate Crimes Task Force.
On a more personal note, Gawyn is a student of Starhawk’s work and follows an earth-based spirituality - a mixture of the Reclaiming Tradition, Druidism, and Shamanism. His search leads him along many paths. Currently, he is exploring the life of a Hermit. He lives in a small cottage, he has named Red Dragon House, on the mountain where he spends time in silence, contemplation, writes, has friends over, tells stories, and occasionally plays World of Warcraft.
To put beans on the table Gawyn works at Marshall University . He is also teaches Sociology as an adjunct faculty member at Ashland Community & Technical College in Ashland, KY.
